Welcome to our St. Francis Statues page. We have several different sizes and styles available for sale. St. Francis of Assisi founded the Franciscan order after God asked him to "Repair My Church." He is considered the patron saint of animals and the ecology. He believed that his brotherhood included all of God's creation, and that a sparrow was as much his brother as the Pope. He is said to have preached to a flock of birds about being thankful to God for their beautiful clothes, their freedom and God's care. The flock is reported to have listened patiently, only flying off when Francis told them they could go. In another famous story, he is said to have saved a man-eating wolf from the townspeople who wanted to kill him. He reportedly talked the wolf into never killing again, and the animal then became a pet of the townspeople, who began to feed him. Based on these and other stories, it's no wonder that many St. Francis Statues picture this patron saint with a wolf, birds, and other animals. St. Francis was born in Assisi, Italy in 1182, and died in 1226, leaving behind an order that preached strict obedience to God, and living the Gospel in daily life. |
