and are mounted on a marble base. These are fine quality statues made in Italy and imported for you.
The Pieta is a timeless expression of sorrow that depicts the Virgin Mary holding the dead body of our lord and her son, Jesus Christ. Though
many versions have appeared over the centuries, the most popular is the marble work completed by Michelangelo in 1499 that currently resides
in St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City.
The Pieta (Italian for "pity") is often referred to as the Lamentation of Christ, and has become a very common sculpture theme in Catholic art. It is
associated with the Deposition or Descent from the Cross, the 13th Station of the Cross.
